“ Time to Give Back ”
C
limate change is real. The people pictured here are all citizens of the world. They breath the same air, drink the same water and walk the same earth. If things don't change on this planet, whatever business they have will be moot.
I challenge each and every billionaire to do something with their money that will benefit the world.
But first, how much is a billion dollars? One billion is a thousand million in whatever currency you use. Some billions are more valuable than others but in this case let's assume the currency is in American dollars.
One rich and fortunate person out of 7 billion human beings on this earth has control of not just a few million dollars (already considered a lot of money), but of one thousand of these millions. According to Forbes Magazine, there are currently 2,153 billionaires in the world.
I don't begrudge anyone getting rich but some have done it on the backs of the majority (better known as the "little people"), or in some insidious, underhanded criminal way (stealing from their own people) — or just by being criminals.
Our other billionaires have made it through business successes or inheritances. At no time in history have I seen so many people reach billionaire status so fast with (at times) minimal effort. I don't mean they didn't work hard or deserve it, but it does seem that some have achieved this success because of being in the right place at the right time, with the right thing, and the right people to put together that which made them not just millionaires but billionaires.
Hard work and savings can put you into the millionaires' club but a billionaires' club is so different. It would take more than a lifetime for many to spend all their money.
It's almost impossible to image oneself a billionaire; the thought is beyond most people's imagination. Everyone wants and needs financial security — food on your plate and a roof over your head. Many people work hard and achieve some degree of wealth that satisfies them.
Unfortunately, this just applies to a small fraction of the population of this earth. Those living in industrialized settled nations can have a life that resembles a comfortable lifestyle. This applies to the US, Canada, Europe and some Asian countries. Of course there are rich people in every country but some just have a lot more.
Can you look into the eyes of today's children and tell them they have a future? That's why I CALL TO ACTION the most privileged people in the world.
I ask these people to bypass all the gutless politicians, flex your financial muscles and create a "Circle of Friends of the Planet". If all the above mentioned donated just one billion dollars you would have over 400 (if not more) billion dollars to fight the global disasters that are coming. Change your ways of doing business. People will remember you if you do good. You will be reviled and forgotten if you do the opposite. There are a number of you who are actively working against helping the world and its people. What is wrong with you? Are you so selfish that you need one more billion to sustain yourself? When the world crashes, you will crash with it (unless there's some crazy conspiracy theory to save all the billionaires of the world).
Having said all this, there are some people that epitomize the true meaning of altruism and philanthropy.
I really admire Bill Gates, Melinda Gates, Warren Buffett and now MacKenzie Scott wife of Jeff Bezos who are willing to give most of their money away. They have created Foundations that are truly worth looking at. — The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and The Warren T. Buffett Foundation. After reaching the pinnacle of success they are now using their money to help humanity.
I encourage you to have a look at their websites.
We must add to our list Jeff Bezo's ex wife, MacKenzie Scott who is giving away $1 billion a month to charity. MacKenzie Scott story
Here is the list of the world's billionaires taken from forbes.com. There were numerous billionaires on this list who quietly and anonamously helped the world during the pandemic crisis. I have to add there is one billionaire that is considered the richest man in the world for which I now am disgusted and have no respect for him. He has turned his back on humanity and is indulging in ego tripping and power grabbing, supporting a President elect known to not help anyone but himself. Elon Musk you could be doing so much good, instead you are humiliating yourself and guaranteed to leave a memory of disappointment. You will never reach Mars.
